Alpine F1 2027: drivers, Mercedes engine and where to watch the team

Alpine enters 2027 with Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto, an Enstone base with a long racing heritage and Mercedes customer engines. This guide sets out the line-up, the team's history under earlier names, and which Grands Prix are worth planning if you want to follow the blue cars.

Alpine F1 2027 drivers: Gasly and Colapinto

Pierre Gasly, from France, drives number 10. He debuted in 2017, won the 2020 Italian Grand Prix and has signed a contract extension with the team. He remains the most experienced voice in the garage, and his race craft in traffic is a good reason to pick a grandstand near an overtaking spot.

Franco Colapinto, from Argentina, wears number 43. Born in 2003, he debuted in 2024 and is confirmed by Alpine for 2027. He has no wins yet, but he brings a very enthusiastic South American following wherever the team races.

Mercedes customer engines in the Alpine F1 2027 car

A change of engine for Alpine F1 2027

Alpine has used Mercedes customer engines since 2026, and that arrangement continues in 2027. The same supplier powers the works Mercedes team, McLaren and Williams, so it is easy to compare how different chassis philosophies use the same engine.

Why it matters for Alpine F1 fans

Using a customer engine lets the team concentrate on aerodynamics, suspension and strategy, and in a tight midfield small gains of a tenth or two can move a car several places on the grid. When you watch from the stands, keep an eye on how the car handles braking zones and slow corners, because that is where chassis work shows. See the full engine picture on our F1 teams 2027 page.

Enstone base and Alpine F1 heritage

The official entry name is Gucci Racing Alpine F1 Team, and the factory is in Enstone, England. The history of the site stretches back to Toleman in 1981, then Benetton and Renault. Under those previous names it won three constructors' titles, in 1995, 2005 and 2006. Under the Alpine name the team has no title yet.

Steve Nielsen is listed as managing director, with Flavio Briatore as executive advisor. That mix of experience and fresh ideas explains why the team keeps appearing in discussions about the midfield battle each season. The Enstone factory has produced race winners and champions for decades, so the sense of continuity is strong even when the name on the car changes.
