Monza grandstands 2027: where to sit at the Italian Grand Prix

The Monza grandstands 2027 range from the main straight to the Parabolica, the chicanes and the grass areas in the park. This guide compares the zones, explains what each view offers, covers gates, trains and buses, and helps you choose before the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday 5 September 2027, a confirmed sprint weekend.

Monza grandstands 2027: the layout in brief

The Italian Grand Prix is round 14 of the 2027 season and is confirmed for Sunday 5 September 2027, with track action from Friday 3 September. It is a sprint weekend, so a three-day ticket gives you more to watch. The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is a permanent circuit of 5.793 km with 11 turns and a capacity of 118 865, set inside a large royal park.

The Monza grandstands follow the shape of the lap: a long start and finish straight, a heavy braking chicane, fast corners through the woods, the Ascari chicane and the Parabolica. Fast, simple and full of slipstream battles, it is a circuit where the stand you choose largely decides whether you see the start, the pit lane or the finishing run. The wider weekend picture is on the Italian Grand Prix page.

What makes Monza grandstands different

Because the track is quick, you spend less time watching a car and more time anticipating where it will appear. The park is big, so a stand far from your gate can mean a long walk. Think about both the view and the route to it. The race distance for 2027 is also expected to be shorter under the new rules, at about 290 km, so the lap count has not yet been published.

Main-straight Monza grandstands: start, pit lane and podium

If you want the biggest sense of occasion, the stands along the start and finish straight give you the grid, the pit lane and the podium in one place. They are the most central views at Monza, and for many fans that is worth the premium feeling.

  • Gradinate Traguardo: on the start and finish straight, with views of the start, the pit lane and the podium.
  • Centrale: the central block on the main straight, with a direct view of the grid and the pit wall.
  • Piscina: between the start straight and the Prima Variante. It appears on the 2027 map as an official stand name, and it covers the zone before the first chicane.
  • Laterale Destra (A/B/C): on the right side of the main straight, with views of the pit straight.

Why choose main-straight Monza grandstands

You see the start, the pit stops and the podium ceremony, and you are in the best place for the famous end-of-race scene when fans can walk onto the track near the podium. The downside is that you see less of the speed, because the cars arrive and leave quickly.

Monza grandstands 2027: Who should avoid the straight

If you want to watch overtaking, the straight is not the best choice. It shows the preparation rather than the move. Fans who love battles usually prefer the chicanes.

Chicane and corner Monza grandstands for racing action

Braking zones are where Monza produces its best racing, and the stands around the chicanes are the natural choice for fans who want to see the moves happen.

  • Prima Variante Esterna (A/B): outside the first chicane, the Rettifilo. It gives you heavy-braking overtaking and lap-one incidents.
  • Seconda Variante (1/2): the second chicane, also called the Variante della Roggia, with a braking zone after a long straight.
  • Alta Velocita (B/C): a high-speed section, listed with official names on the 2027 price map.
  • Lesmo 1 Esterna / Lesmo 2 Interno: the fast Lesmo corners in the woods.
  • Ascari (1-4) / Uscita Ascari: the fast chicane and the long run to the Parabolica.

Prima Variante: the Monza grandstand for lap-one drama

The first corner is where races change shape. A seat on the outside gives you a front-row view of cars braking from very high speed, and it is the best option for anyone who loves the start.

Lesmo and Ascari for speed and rhythm

These zones show how quickly the cars change direction, and the setting among the trees gives the view a different feel from the open straight. Expect to hear the cars long before you see them.

Parabolica and grass areas among the Monza grandstands

The Parabolica, also known as Curva Alboreto, is the final corner and the exit onto the main straight. Stands here include Gradinate Interno Parabolica and Laterale Parabolica. The inner stand is especially popular because it shows the exit and gives a glimpse of the pit straight. For many regulars, Parabolica is the best all-round choice at Monza.

General admission is available too. The grass areas, called Prato, include the Circolare Prato zone, and the 2027 offer includes single-day and three-day grass tickets. Children under 12 enter the grass areas free under the organiser's rules, so check the terms for your group when you book.

Monza grandstands versus grass areas

A reserved stand gives you a seat and a known view. The grass gives you freedom, shade from the trees and a lower level of commitment. The areas near Ascari and Lesmo have a woodland setting and good atmosphere. Bring a folding mat if the rules allow it and keep in mind that the ground can be dusty or damp.

Best Monza grandstands for first-time visitors

If you only go once, Parabolica or a main-straight stand gives you the most complete experience: the final corner, the pit straight and the finish. For a more relaxed day, take a grass ticket and walk the park. You can also read our Monaco Grand Prix 2027 grandstands guide to compare how a street circuit differs.

Getting to your Monza grandstands: gates, trains and buses

The park has several gates: Vedano, Biassono, Villasanta, San Giorgio and Lesmo. The gate matters, because walking between gates and stands can take 1 to 2 km. Check the gate printed on your ticket and plan your route before you leave.

By rail, Monza station is on the suburban lines S8, S9 and S11, about 6.6 km from the circuit. From there, bus 204 goes to Vedano (Gate A) and bus 221 goes to Biassono (Gate B). Both are paid services. Another route is the M1 metro to Sesto 1° Maggio FS, followed by the Z221 bus.

Airports for Monza grandstands trips

Milano Linate is about 25 km away, Malpensa about 50 km and Bergamo Orio al Serio about 40 km, all via Milan. Linate is usually the shortest transfer, and Milan is the natural hub for the weekend.

Driving to Monza grandstands

The roads include the A4 from Turin and the A9 and SS 527 from Como and Varese. Parking is sold separately by the organiser, so reserve it with your ticket if you plan to drive. Expect queues, and leave later than the crowds if you want to avoid the worst traffic after the race.

Where to stay near Monza

Hotels in Monza fill early. Milan, around the Centrale and Porta Venezia areas, offers more choice and a train to Monza. Lecco and Como, and Brianza towns such as Vimercate and Lissone, are further alternatives. Choose the base that fits your gate and your train.

Monza grandstands: weather, tips and history

Early September is typically warm, about 22 to 30 degrees, and mostly dry, though afternoon storms are possible. Wear comfortable shoes, take sun protection and carry water. Bring a light waterproof, because a storm can arrive quickly.

  • Tickets are bearer documents, and the organiser applies a fiscal-seal procedure for discounts, so keep them safe.
  • After the race, fans may enter the track near the podium on foot, so plan your exit.
  • Leave extra time for walking between gates and stands.

Monza grandstands and the sprint weekend

Because 2027 is a sprint weekend at Monza, a three-day pass covers the most action. Session times are not published yet, and the organiser normally releases the timetable a few weeks before the event.

A short history of Monza grandstands

Built in 1922, Monza is the oldest purpose-built circuit in mainland Europe. The Italian Grand Prix has run every year in the world championship since 1950, with the 1933 Black Day as a dark chapter. The 1971 race ended with the closest finish ever, by 0.01 seconds. The best-known lap in a race is Rubens Barrichello's 1:21.046 in 2004.
