New Hampshire: why the Magic Mile has a reputation

The Loudon track opened in 1990 and measures 1.058 miles. Its corners are relatively flat and the turns tight, so cars slow a lot on entry and speed up on exit. This makes it unusual: drivers must brake hard, overtaking is tough, and a mistake costs positions. Most of the passing action happens on restarts.

The long straights make fuel strategy relevant, and some teams gamble by staying out under caution to gain track position. Whether that works depends on how many laps remain, so the closing stage is rarely predictable.
