Mexico City Grand Prix 2027: Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez Zones, Stadium and Travel

The Mexico City Grand Prix 2027 is round 20 of the F1 season, with the race on Sunday 31 October at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. This guide covers the colour-coded zones, the stadium grandstands, how to use the Metro, where to stay in the city and how to cope with the altitude.

Mexico City Grand Prix 2027: dates and what to expect

The Mexico City Grand Prix 2027 is round 20 of 24, with the race on Sunday 31 October 2027 and the weekend starting on Friday 29 October. It is not a sprint weekend, so the format is practice, qualifying and the race. The timetable has not been published; the organiser normally releases it a few weeks before the event.

Race distance is expected to be about 290 km under the 2027 regulations, which would trim the 71 laps of 2026. The Grand Prix sits between Austin and São Paulo in a run of three Americas rounds, and you can see how the trio fits on the F1 2027 calendar.

Mexico City is a huge destination, so book transport and rooms early and do not leave planning until the last minute.

Why F1 Mexico City is unlike any other race

The Mexico City Grand Prix circuit

The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is 4.304 km long with 17 turns, and it has a capacity of around 110,000. At an altitude of 2,240 m, the thin air robs engines and aerodynamics of efficiency, which makes the cars behave differently from anywhere else on the calendar. Valtteri Bottas set the lap record, 1:17.774, in 2021.

History of the Mexico City F1 race

The first race was held in 1962 as a non-championship event, and Formula 1 returned in 2015 after an absence of 23 years. The old Peraltada banked corner has been partly replaced by the stadium section, where grandstands now wrap around the track. Max Verstappen holds five wins here.

The atmosphere, with fans packed into the stadium, is often described as one of the loudest on the calendar. If you want to compare it with a night-time spectacle, read our Singapore Grand Prix guide.

Where to watch the Mexico City GP: zones and stadium stands

The circuit sells coloured general admission zones as well as numbered grandstands. Each zone has a different character, so choose by what you want to see.

Colour zones at the Mexico City Grand Prix

  • Zona Verde: the start/finish area, for ceremonial moments, pit stops and the finish.
  • Zona Naranja: along the longest straight, where cars exceed 300 km/h.
  • Zona Azul: curves and overtaking zones, with DJ entertainment.
  • Zona Rosa: Turns 4 to 8, with several perspectives.
  • Zona Amarilla: the Recorte Rebaque section, with a front-row view of braking.
  • Zona Gris and Zona Cafe: service areas with food, a beer garden, a simulator, dining and merchandise.
  • Grand Tour: lets you visit three zones.

Stadium grandstands for F1 Mexico City

The numbered stadium grandstands, 1 to 15, sit in the Foro Sol section and are the most famous place to watch. They deliver the loud, stadium-style atmosphere the race is known for. Zona Amarilla is the choice for braking, and Zona Naranja for pure speed.

Mexico City 2027 tickets and hospitality

Tickets for 2027 are not on sale yet. Official zones can sell out, and the 2026 general sale already did, so be ready as soon as the sale opens. The Tickets button on this page will show live availability when it does, and the alert will tell you first.

We do not quote prices because none have been published and they vary between zones, stadium sections and packages. The zone names above are the categories used recently, so expect something similar, but check the official structure when it is released. Decide whether you prefer a zone with freedom to move, such as a Grand Tour, or a numbered stadium seat.

Hospitality at the Mexico City Grand Prix

Getting to F1 Mexico City by Metro, bus and shuttle

Benito Juarez International Airport is close to the circuit. Heavy congestion is the main challenge on race days, so public transport is recommended. Ride-hailing apps such as Uber, Didi and Cabify are available but can be expensive.

Metro and Metrobus to the Mexico City GP

Metro Line 9 serves Velodromo, Ciudad Deportiva and Puebla stations, and Metrobus Line 2 also serves the area. The Metro costs only a few pesos, so go early on race day to beat the crowds.

Shuttles around the Autodromo

Free perimeter buses operate around the Autodromo with an event ticket. Paid shuttles run from Condesa, Santa Fe, Interlomas and Perisur. Confirm current services when the organiser publishes them.

Where to stay for the Mexico City Grand Prix

Roma and Condesa are the favourites, with a wide choice of restaurants and good connections by Metro or ride-share. Polanco is more upscale, Centro Histórico suits sightseeing, and Coyoacán offers a calmer, more traditional atmosphere.

Whichever you pick, check the route to the circuit before you book. If this is your first race, our First F1 Grand Prix 2027 guide will help, and the Motorsport travel guides 2027 cover more destinations.

Altitude and weather tips for the Mexico City F1 weekend

Days in late October and early November are mild, around 20 to 24 °C, with possible afternoon showers. The altitude of 2,240 m is the bigger factor for visitors.

  • Hydrate regularly and use sun protection, as the sun is stronger at altitude.
  • Pack a light rain jacket for afternoon showers.
  • Arrive early on race day to avoid traffic and security queues.
  • Take it easy on your first day if you are not used to the altitude.

You may be combining this with other Americas rounds: see the United States Grand Prix beforehand, then the São Paulo Grand Prix and the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
