Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2027: Baku City Circuit Dates, Viewing Spots and Travel

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2027 is round 16 of the F1 season, with the race on Sunday 26 September on the Baku City Circuit in the centre of the Azerbaijani capital. This guide covers the weekend, the track's famous Old City section, how to reach it, where to stay and how to be ready when ticket details are released.

Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2027: date and weekend overview

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2027 is round 16 of 24, with the race on Sunday 26 September 2027 and the weekend beginning on Friday 24 September. It is not a sprint weekend, so the programme is the traditional one: practice, qualifying and the race. The calendar was announced in September 2026, but the date is still listed provisionally until the organiser confirms the full programme.

Session times have not been published. As usual, they are expected a few weeks before the event, and we will not guess them here. Under the 2027 regulations the race distance is expected to be around 290 km, so the 51 laps of 2026 are likely to be shorter.

Baku follows the Spanish round in Madrid and precedes Istanbul and Singapore, making the autumn run one of the most varied stretches of the year. Browse the whole F1 2027 calendar to plan around it.

Why F1 Baku is one of the most distinctive circuits

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix circuit

The Baku City Circuit opened in June 2016, designed by Hermann Tilke as a very fast street track. At 6.003 km with 20 turns, it is one of the longest laps on the calendar. Charles Leclerc holds the lap record with a 1:43.009 set in 2019.

Old City section in Baku F1

Its signature is the narrow uphill stretch through the Old City, only 7.6 metres wide in places, close to the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs. Cars squeeze between historic walls at high speed, and the contrast with the glass towers elsewhere in the city is memorable. The other half of the lap is the flat-out run of about 2.2 km along Neftchilar Avenue.

The history includes Nico Rosberg's win in the 2016 European Grand Prix on this track, as well as drain-cover incidents in practice in 2016 and 2019. Compare this with a very different street venue on our Singapore Grand Prix page.

Where to watch the Azerbaijan GP: viewing spots

The official site did not expose grandstand names for 2027, so we do not list any rather than invent them. What we can say is where the best viewing areas are likely to be, based on the layout.

Best spots at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix

  • The Old City section: the most scenic part of the lap, near the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs. It gives the most dramatic photographs.
  • Neftchilar Avenue: the flat-out stretch of about 2.2 km, which is the main overtaking location on the track.
  • The castle section: narrow and dramatic, but check which areas are actually sold.

General admission in Baku F1

We have not verified whether a general admission option exists for 2027. When the official ticket map is released, we will update this page and our alert will tell you about it. Until then, assume nothing about standing areas.

Tickets for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2027

Tickets are not on sale yet, and the 2027 categories have not been published. Use the alert on this page to be told when they appear. When sales open, the Tickets button will show current availability from our partner ticket sellers.

Because we have no confirmed categories, we cannot list prices, and we would rather say so than speculate. As a rule, the seats with the clearest views of the main straight and the Old City section tend to be the first to go, so be ready on the day they are released. If you plan to travel from abroad, check visa and entry rules for Azerbaijan early, since processing can take time.

Hospitality at the Baku 2027 race

Hospitality packages have not been announced. For an idea of what these usually include, read our F1 hospitality 2027 guide.

Getting around Baku F1 and arriving in the city

Heydar Aliyev International Airport is about 20 km from the centre. The track runs through the heart of the capital, near Azadliq (Freedom) Square, and much of central Baku is walkable, so the best plan is to stay close to the circuit and walk in.

Roads close around the weekend, so allow extra time for any journey that crosses the circuit area. We have no confirmed information on rail or shuttle services for race weekend, and we will not guess. Check the organiser's visitor information once it is published, and plan your walks around closed roads.

It is worth carrying water and layers, because the wind off the Caspian can change comfort quickly. If this is your first Grand Prix, see our First F1 Grand Prix 2027 guide for a simple packing list.

Where to stay for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Stay in the city centre. The circuit is in the middle of town, and the road closures mean that a hotel outside the central area can add a lot to your daily journey. Good options include the Old City, the Seaside Boulevard area and the Nasimi district, all within walking range of different parts of the track.

The Old City is atmospheric and puts you beside the most famous section of the lap, while Nasimi tends to be more modern and practical. Book early once tickets are released, as demand for central rooms rises quickly in a race week. For more ideas, browse the Motorsport travel guides 2027.

Baku 2027 weekend tips and weather

Late September in Baku is mild and often windy, around 22 to 27 °C. Carry water, bring a light jacket for the evenings, and wear comfortable shoes because you will probably walk more than you expect.

  • Check the ticket office information for sold sections once it is published.
  • Plan your walking routes around closed streets.
  • Keep time in your schedule for security checks at entrances.

Looking at your options? The Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid comes two weeks earlier, and the Turkish Grand Prix follows a week later. You can also see the grid on our F1 teams 2027 page.
