Spanish Grand Prix 2027: Madring Grandstands, Madrid Travel and Ticket Guide

The Spanish Grand Prix 2027 is round 15 of the F1 season, with the race on Sunday 12 September at Madring, the semi-permanent circuit beside the IFEMA exhibition grounds in north-east Madrid. This guide covers the sectors and grandstands, how to get there without a car, where to stay and what to do while tickets are not yet on sale.

Spanish Grand Prix 2027: dates and what to expect

The Spanish Grand Prix 2027 is confirmed for Sunday 12 September, with the weekend starting on Friday 10 September. It is round 15 of 24 and a standard weekend without a sprint, so expect practice, qualifying and the race. Session times have not been published, and the organiser normally releases them a few weeks beforehand.

Madrid arrived on the calendar in 2026, replacing Barcelona-Catalunya, which is due back on rotation with Belgium from 2028. The 2026 race, on 13 September, was the first Spanish Grand Prix at Madring and was won by Kimi Antonelli for Mercedes, ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. That makes 2027 only the second edition in the capital.

The cars change for 2027, and race distance is expected to drop to about 290 km, so the 57 laps of 2026 will probably be reduced. See the full F1 2027 calendar for the rounds around it.

Madring explained: why F1 Madrid looks different

A semi-permanent circuit for Madrid F1

Madring is 5.414 km long with 22 turns, built around the IFEMA exhibition area near the airport. It is semi-permanent rather than a classic street track, and it has the first covered paddock in Formula 1. Corner names such as Las Enlazadas de Valdebebas, El Bunker and Hortaleza give it a local flavour, and two tunnels run beneath an elevated motorway.

La Monumental and the Madrid F1 straight

The signature feature is La Monumental, a banked 180-degree corner of about 550 m, inspired by bullrings, with capacity for 45,000 spectators. The track also has the 837 m straight along Calle Ribera de Sena, where speeds reach roughly 340 km/h at Curve 4. The lap record is George Russell's 1:35.587 from 2026, and overall capacity is around 110,000.

Overtaking was limited in the first race, and drivers said so. Expect the organisers and teams to look at this before 2027, though nothing has been announced.

Where to watch the Spanish GP: Madring grandstands and sectors

The circuit is split into two independent sectors, north and south, and you cannot cross between them inside the circuit. Tickets are tied to one sector, with a separate entrance for each, so choose carefully and enter by the gate printed on your ticket.

Spanish Grand Prix grandstand categories

  • Gold Grandstand: premium reserved seats on the main straight, with start/finish, pit lane and podium views. Some seats are covered.
  • Silver Grandstand: reserved seating at strategic corners and technical sections.
  • Bronze Grandstand: the value option in accessible areas around the circuit, where the view varies by location.
  • La Monumental: the banked corner stand, with about six seconds of cornering in view.
  • North sector and North Fan Zone: the northern area near Valdebebas.
  • South sector: a separate entrance and its own ticket.

Best spots at Madrid 2027

Curve 1 and Curve 13 are the main overtaking and braking spots, with Curve 1 dropping from about 320 to 100 km/h. For speed, look at the long straight. The organiser says a full map and services will be published nearer the race, and no standing general admission area has been confirmed.

Madrid F1 2027 tickets and hospitality

Tickets for the Spanish Grand Prix 2027 are not on sale yet. When sales open, expect the Gold, Silver and Bronze grandstand structure, plus sector information once the full map is released. The best way to be ready is to join the alert on this page, and the Tickets button will show live availability when it appears.

We do not quote prices, because they have not been published and will depend on the category. Bronze is the entry-level seated option, while Gold is the premium choice. When the first sales open, prime areas tend to go quickly, so decide beforehand which sector suits your travel plan.

Hospitality for the Madrid F1 weekend

Package details have not been confirmed. In the meantime, our F1 hospitality 2027 guide explains how lounge packages usually work and what to compare.

Getting to the Madrid F1 circuit by Metro, train and bus

Madrid-Barajas airport is very close, and Metro Line 8 reaches Feria de Madrid in about eight minutes. Do not plan to drive: there is no private parking at the circuit, only limited accessible parking, and public transport is strongly recommended.

Metro and Cercanias to the Spanish GP

Stations on Lines 8 and 4, namely Feria de Madrid, Canillas, Mar de Cristal and San Lorenzo, are within walking distance. Cercanias line C-1 runs to Valdebebas, the nearest station to the North Fan Zone, via Chamartin.

Buses and shuttles to Madrid F1

EMT lines 171, 174 and N28 serve the north zone, while lines 120, 122 and 104 and others serve the south. Shuttle buses run from Plaza Castilla and Canillejas. Check the exact routes for your sector once the organiser publishes them.

Where to stay for the Spanish Grand Prix

The circuit is in the north-east of Madrid, close to the airport, so hotels along Metro Line 8 or near Chamartin are the most practical. Barajas and Campo de las Naciones keep you closest, while Chamartin and Nuevos Ministerios offer excellent rail links.

If you prefer a livelier base, Salamanca and Centro work well, as long as you are comfortable with a Metro or train ride. Alcobendas and San Sebastian de los Reyes are calmer options north of the city. Mid-September is still warm in Madrid, so book early once ticket sales open. For a first race, our First F1 Grand Prix 2027 guide covers the basics.

Practical tips for the Madrid 2027 race weekend

  • Weather: mid-September in Madrid is dry and sunny, about 26 to 31 °C by day, with cooler evenings.
  • Fan zone: the North Fan Zone near Valdebebas offers DJ sets and tapas areas, according to the organiser.
  • Sectors: enter by the gate on your ticket and do not expect to cross between north and south.
  • Action: if you want passing, pick the braking zones at Curve 1 or Curve 13.

Heading from Monza? See the Italian Grand Prix page, then look ahead to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix two weeks later. If you are choosing between rounds, the Hungarian Grand Prix offers a very different atmosphere.
