Coca-Cola 600 2027 at Charlotte Motor Speedway: The Longest Race of the Year

Six hundred miles is a long afternoon and evening. The Coca-Cola 600 takes place on Sunday 30 May 2027 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord, as round 13. This page covers the endurance test, Memorial Day weekend and how to plan around the capital of the sport.

The Coca-Cola 600 and its place in the calendar

The Coca-Cola 600 is the longest race in NASCAR's top division and traditionally runs on the weekend of Memorial Day, the American holiday that honours those who died in military service. In 2027 the weekend begins on Friday 28 May and the race is on Sunday 30 May. Date confirmed; no session times have been published.

Coca-Cola 600: endurance on a 1.5-mile quad-oval

Charlotte Motor Speedway opened in 1960 and is a 1.5-mile quad-oval. The 600 is an exercise in stamina: engines, tyres and crews all have to survive twice the distance of many rounds. Conditions change as the sun sets, the surface cools and the cars' handling shifts, which keeps engineers busy and rewards teams that adapt.

What makes the Coca-Cola 600 a spectacle

The scale of the grandstands, the pre-race tributes and the sheer length of the afternoon turn this into more than a race.

NASCAR Concord: Charlotte as a base

The speedway is in Concord, north-east of Charlotte, and the area around Mooresville is where many teams have their workshops. Charlotte is well served by flights, and hotels are plentiful, but a holiday weekend fills them quickly. Late May is warm and humid, with storms possible. The same venue stages an autumn race: NASCAR Charlotte. The week before, see the All-Star Race; the whole calendar is on the NASCAR 2027 schedule.
