NASCAR Martinsville April 2027 at Martinsville Speedway: The Paperclip Explained

NASCAR Martinsville April: Round 8: Martinsville in the spring stretch

With nine points races in the books by the end of this month, Martinsville is where patience gets tested. The weekend spans Friday 16 April to Sunday 18 April 2027. The date is confirmed. Timings will come later from the organiser. The next stop is Talladega, a world apart.

Martinsville April: a paperclip-shaped oval with a long history

The track dates back to 1947, before NASCAR officially existed as a sanctioning body, which makes it the oldest venue still on the calendar. At 0.526 miles it is shaped like a paperclip: two long straights joined by tight, flat turns. Concrete surfaces the corners and asphalt the straights.

Heavy braking into the turns, bumper contact and brake fires are all familiar sights. Winners traditionally receive a grandfather clock, a distinctive trophy that has become a symbol of the place.

NASCAR Ridgeway: a country weekend in Ridgeway

Martinsville Speedway lies in the foothills of south-west Virginia, near the North Carolina line, and the surrounding area is rural, so plan lodging and meals ahead. The town of Martinsville and Greensboro, North Carolina, are the usual bases. The local hot dogs are an old tradition at the circuit.
