Talladega April: racing at 2.66 miles: pack and wreck

Talladega Superspeedway opened in 1969 and the turns are banked at 33 degrees, higher than almost anywhere else on the calendar. Cars cover the long lap flat out, and the sport uses restrictions on engine power to keep speeds in check. The result is a huge, tight pack. A move in the middle of that pack can spark a multi-car crash that fans call the Big One.

This randomness is why the race can be won by almost anyone, and why the final laps are among the most tense in the sport.
